Soledade de Minas → Windows 95 → Delphi → Python → law → Russia → education → weird internet [running]

Hi. I'm Pablo Murad. I take apart ideas, computers, mental models and, when there's time left, illusions too. I was born in Soledade de Minas, grew up asking "how does this work?" and apparently took that question way too far.

Unfairly short summary: ex-almost-priest, ex-almost-filmmaker, ex-law graduate, programmer by vocation, compulsive reader, incurable cinephile and founder of an education project. An unlikely sequence of bugs that somehow compiled.

whoami

Started early: in 1997 a Pentium MMX showed up in my life and that was basically the end of any chance of me becoming a normal person. Got into Delphi on Windows 95, then Python, and never recovered.

Along the way I considered the priesthood, dreamed about film, survived high school mostly out of stubbornness, studied law, graduated with distinction, left the field by conviction and went around the world to see if reality made more sense in another language. Sometimes it did. Sometimes it didn't.

Came back, bumped my head on a few business failures and then built, with my mother, an education initiative designed to be less bureaucratic and more useful. It worked. Really well, actually.

current status

Programming, reading, overthinking, trying to improve the education world and annoying poorly designed systems.

suspicious skills

Python, strategy, obsession with understanding mechanisms, institutional criticism, passion for cinema and low tolerance for BS.

known weaknesses

Excessive curiosity, too many ideas at once, too many books, too many tabs, too many projects.

rough timeline
  • 1987: born in Soledade de Minas with the bad habit of wanting to understand everything.
  • 1997: first computer. Started messing with software when the Brazilian internet was still basically archaeology in real time.
  • 2000s: film, photography, literature, existential crisis and serious discovery of programming.
  • Python was 2.0: learned from an ex-Microsoft guy and adopted the language as a long-term companion.
  • law phase: got in, did well, graduated with distinction and decided not to continue. Legal plot twist.
  • Russia phase: travel, language, personal transformation, almost marriage, lots of material for a screenplay never filmed.
  • Portal IDEA phase: education, scale, impact, networking, podcasts, talks and more work than any elegant bio admits.

More links when I stop rewriting this homepage as if it were therapy.

almost useless disclaimer

This page contains traces of autobiography, retrocomputing, irony, late vocation, questionable decisions and hand-crafted HTML.

spiritual guestbook

No guestbook yet. For now, imagine a notebook with notes like:

  • "came for the Python, stayed for the philosophical crisis"
  • "this guy really dropped law to do something useful"
  • "finally a homepage with more personality than framework"
