A very merry Christmas to all my friends on the tildeverse! 30 2025-12-26 03:46:32
Unfortunately, I have not had much time to be on the tildeverse recently. I wish I could dedicate all my time to messing around with others on the internet... Real life gets in the way! 29 2025-12-19 20:13:30
Nice! My page view counter is back! I am not sure how it was fixed, but I am glad it is working again! 28 2025-12-19 20:08:51
I am thinking about re-flashing my Meshtastic nodes with RNode instead. Reticulum looks far more thought out than Meshtastic. Way more thinks look possible on Reticulum. Some people argue Meshtastic is better because it is simpler. I agree it is simplistic yet poorly designed. 27 2025-12-09 23:26:02
Cleaning out my inbox and creating filters feels productive 26 2025-12-07 15:46:06
I am conflicted about using powershell. On one hand I think it is a better design for a shell. But on the other hand I am worried that I am going to lose my muscle membory of a more conventional shell (sh/bash/zsh/etc.). Powershell feels more REPL-y than shell-y, which as a developer I appreciate. 25 2025-12-05 21:38:21
I loaded and processed this data with the sqlite cli, this was my first time doing this and it is really powerful. Feel free to stop by my project dir /home/banana/projects/shells and give it a try! 24 2025-12-05 16:24:09
I was exploring /etc/passwd and I collected some stats on user shells:
  1. zsh: 574 users
  2. fish: 222 users
  3. powershell: 18 users
  4. elvish: 5 users
  5. xonsh: 5 users

Software is a comfort to me because it follows patterns, is logical, and any problems found can be solved. The real world is uncertain and messy! 22 2025-12-05 14:31:36
I came back because I think there is something special about tildes and the smolnet. Since the introduction of LLMs, fostering human connection is more important now than ever. LLMs are a great tool, but come with a great responsibility. 21 2025-12-04 23:16:19
Hello, world! Its been a while, but Im back in my tilde and Im ready to explore more! New things coming!! 20 2025-12-04 23:08:01
I hit over 100 page views thats pretty cool! 19 2022-06-03 14:59:35
I think all software developers should dedicate at least a few hours of their time to exploring new ideas and solutions. Especially at their day job. It lets you take a step back and objectively weigh the pros/cons of your existing design. 18 2022-06-02 16:15:12
I wonder if humans read this feed, or if its just web crawlers... 17 2022-05-20 20:25:10
Starting fresh in a new notebook is exciting, especially after your last notebook lasted over two years. Thinking about what I will be writing on the last pages, and what lessons I learned in the 200 pages in between... 16 2022-05-19 20:53:53
Most of them are intentionally editable by anyone on the system... But there is a surprising amount of files that probably weren't supposed to be editable 15 2022-05-17 23:15:04
Compiling statistics on file permissions on tilde.club. By my count there are 177 files in /home/ that are editable by others 14 2022-05-17 23:13:32
Tildes are like urbit without the intentionally confusing design 13 2022-05-17 15:47:44
And telehack even gave me some real life useful training, I learned what wardialing is and AT commands for serial modems 12 2022-05-16 21:19:05
I had a similar idea for tilde.club back in 2011-2012. At the time I was really invested in an online MUD called telehack and I thought the idea of sharing a computer online with people seemed like a really cool idea 11 2022-05-16 21:17:41

This blogging system that youre reading uses sqlite, lua, and outputs html and css. I also limited it to 255 characters for fun 9 2022-05-16 19:03:21
I like using powershell over bash, it makes a lot more sense how everything is and object instead of text 8 2022-05-16 18:57:54
Update to this post, there are over 2000 .git folders that I can read. Time to get the popcorn 7 2022-05-16 18:19:26
Pro tip: when you are setting up a cron job make sure that the command actually works 6 2022-05-16 18:11:11
Using lua as a shell script replacement is pretty nice... 5 2022-05-16 18:02:21
A lot of people on tilde.club leave their .git folders its fun to read some of the development logs :) 4 2022-05-16 17:22:00
This is my super simple microblogging system. I can make a post by using the sqlite3 command line program, and a cron job generates the html for all my posts 3 2022-05-16 15:46:11
